Be the Hands began long before it became an organization.

In 2017, Gregory T. Lucas began feeding and supporting individuals experiencing homelessness across Oklahoma City alongside a small group of coworkers who felt compelled to respond to the need they saw around them. What started as simple acts of kindness such as sharing meals, offering conversation, and showing up consistently soon became something much deeper.

For Gregory, it was never about charity. It was about relationship.

His work became a passion rooted in loving and serving people who could offer nothing in return. It meant meeting neighbors where they were, listening to their stories, and treating them with dignity and respect.

Along the journey, Gregory and his wife, Natasha, experienced profound personal loss. In 2007, Gregory lost his son, Gregory Terrell Lucas Jr. Years later, in 2022, Gregory and Natasha experienced the heartbreaking loss of their infant son, Malachi Jonathan Eugene Lucas. These losses deeply shaped their faith and perspective on life and strengthened their commitment to live in a way that honors God.

Rather than allowing grief to define their story, Gregory and Natasha chose to let it deepen their purpose. They committed themselves to living lives that reflect God's love through compassion, service, and obedience.

In 2025, Gregory, along with his wife Natasha and their daughter Amari, made a renewed commitment to serve more intentionally and consistently. As a family of three, they began preparing and distributing meals to approximately 120 individuals every two weeks in West Oklahoma City. What began as a personal calling grew into a structured outreach effort driven by compassion and conviction.

Over time, the focus of outreach shifted to South Oklahoma City, where the need continued to grow. Today, Be the Hands serves twice each month by providing hot meals, clothing, hygiene supplies, and emotional support.

The work goes beyond food.

We recognize that stability often depends on small but critical needs being met. Be the Hands has provided limited vehicle assistance to help individuals maintain transportation to work, medical appointments, or safe shelter. We also support pets belonging to our unhoused neighbors by providing pet food and supplies because we understand that for many, their animals are their only consistent source of companionship and protection.

Much of this outreach has been funded directly out of pocket. It is fueled not by large grants or corporate sponsorships, but by the belief that love must be demonstrated through action.

We serve freely and without condition. Assistance is never tied to belief, participation in religious activities, or any expectation of return. We believe love is most powerful when it is offered without pressure and expressed through presence.

What began with a few friends in 2017 continues to grow one relationship, one meal, and one act of dignity at a time.
